Against KYC laws

Western countries are on the verge of becoming totalitarian Orwellian states. Shockingly, it is happening while governments keep saying that privacy is very important, and even it is one of the rights included in the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948. China is already an Orwellian country where Chinese Big Brother controls everything done and said and a Social Credit System in place. Sadly US and EU, supposedly defenders of the free world, are following the exact same collectivist path. You can see it throughout thousands of web sites where they collect information. The first message you get, before you can continue is:

Your privacy is very important to us.

The early days of bitcoin

This post is just a collection of some dates, milestones and curiosities in the early days of bitcoin, that I find of interest.

  • 18/08/2008. The bitcoin.org domain was registered.
  • 31/10/2008. Satoshi sent an email to the Cryptography Mailing List announcing the bitcoin white paper. The mail started:

I ‘ve been working on a new electronic cash system that’s fully peer-to-peer, with no trusted third party.

  • 3/01/2009. Satoshi mined the genesis block and started bitcoin. This day is considered to be the birth of bitcoin. In the genesis block, the next message appears, in reference to that headline in The Times newspaper:

The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks.

Is Bitcoin good for humankind?

Not many people can ask themselves this question from an neutral position. Maybe no one?

I think we all must accept that we are biased when we try to answer ourselves this kind of questions. The reasons are multiple: in my opinion the two most relevant are:

  1. We don´t agree on what means good or bad for humankind. For instance, is it good to lower the speed limit to 80 km/h in highways so that the accidents go down 50%? Some people may think it is good, some others will think it is not.
  2. One of the most inherent characteristic of the human being is the subjectiveness. We don´t see the world how it is, we see the world how we are.

So, taking into cosideration those two facts, why even try to answer the question?
